Biography


Marek Dobeš

Born in Prague, graduated from Charles University (journalism). He worked as a journalist at the magazine Video Plus, where his love for films began.
He first worked in film as a journalist for Premiere, Cinema and Kinorevue magazines, and then as a filmmaker for Kinobox TV.

He wrote and directed the cult short film, I WAS A YOUNG INTELLECTUAL (1998), which was successful abroad; and the black comedy CHOKING HAZARD (2004), about the search for the meaning of life.

He collaborated on Milan Šteindler's comedy O ŽIVOT (2007), and as a screenwriter and author of the theme he was behind the highly successful series MÍSTO NAHORE (2002), where he also played one of the roles, and its less successful sequel MÍSTO V ŽIVOTĚ (2006). He also acted in the films GARDENER (2006) and PRAYER (2010).

He also tried his hand at writing, writing the book IT'S GOOD TO BE DEAD (2000) about the abilities of zombies in a world of the dead. His collaboration with Petr Jaekl on a film based on another book of his own - KAJÍNEK (2010) is significant. He continued his collaboration with Patr Jaekl and is the author of the original version of the screenplay for the film JAN ŽIŽKA. He is the author of numerous short stories written for the science fiction monthly Ikarie, later XB-1 and Pevnost. With Lucie Lukačovičová he wrote a novel for children and young people, The Christmas Story.

For Czech Television he made the documentary film The Journey to the Moon, followed by a documentary series on the history of Czech football for the Football Association of the Czech Republic and Czech Television Sport called Czech Football Machine. Dramaturgically, he participated in the Czech Television projects Judgement and the initial setting of the series about the Czech army Provedu.

Currently, Marek Dobeš is presenting his new original film ĎÁBLOVA SBÍRKA, a black comedy, which he will present at Comic-Con Prague 2023.

Marek Dobeš co-owns the company Alfedus, which makes commercials, short films and video films.
