Iain Glen is a British film and television actor born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy and later studied at the University of Aberdeen before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. He graduated in 1985 with an Acting Diploma, having been awarded the prestigious Bancroft Gold Medal.
His big-screen debut came in Paris by Night (1988), where he appeared alongside Charlotte Rampling and Michael Gambon. That same year, he also featured in Gorillas in the Mist with Sigourney Weaver.
On television, Glen gained worldwide recognition for his role as Ser Jorah Mormont in HBO’s fantasy epic Game of Thrones (2011–2019), portraying a knight in exile from Westeros and a loyal protector of Daenerys Targaryen.
From 2019 to 2021, he portrayed Bruce Wayne in DC’s series Titans, appearing in its second and third seasons. He also appeared in the second season of Downton Abbey (2011) as Sir Richard Carlisle, a powerful tabloid publisher and the suitor—later fiancé—of Lady Mary.
Most recently, he stars as Dr. Pete Nichols in the science-fiction series Silo (2023–2025).
In cinema, Glen played the main antagonist Manfred Powell in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and appeared as Dr. Alexander Isaacs / the Tyrant in three films of the Resident Evil movie series (2004–2016).
Throughout his career, Iain Glen has received numerous nominations and awards for his performances.
